About Cat

I'm not a coach who read about rebuilding.
I've done it.

Multiple times, from multiple starting points. That's not a tagline — it's just my life.

I wasn't born into an easy story. I grew up in the Philippines — raised by my grandmother while my parents worked abroad — and didn't know them until I came to the United States at seven years old, not speaking a word of English.

I was too insecure to let anyone see me not knowing. So I figured it out alone, quietly, and came out the other side like I always had something to prove. That instinct never left me.

It would become my greatest curse. And eventually, my greatest gift.

I was a pre-med student — until I wasn't. A flight attendant, until that became inconvenient. I had what you might call a midlife crisis, except I was too young for it and did it anyway — packed up, moved to Hawaii, and spent a few years as a project manager for a tech company in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

And then felt empty again.

So I moved to LA. Because somewhere underneath all of it was a dream I'd been carrying since childhood — writing stories, making films, creating things that helped people find the value in hard situations. The silver lining. The part of the wreckage that turns out to be the point.

That dream eventually bumped up against something else I wanted: to slow down, settle, build a family, put roots somewhere. So I came back to South Carolina. And somewhere in the middle of all those twists — all those reinventions, those arrivals and departures, those seasons of emptiness followed by seasons of something-finally-clicking — I realized something.

The theme of my entire life has been transformation. Every chapter, every detour, every time I burned something down and rebuilt from scratch — it was all practice. It was all pointing here.

I've dealt with chronic depression. I've been through periods where joy felt genuinely inaccessible — not as a concept, but as a lived experience. I didn't find my way back through a program or a formula. I found my way back by doing the slow, honest work of figuring out what I actually wanted my life to feel like. And then, piece by piece, building that.

That's not a process you forget. And it's not one you stop wanting to share.

A friend started asking me for sessions. She kept coming back. She told other people. Eventually she looked at me and said — you need to be doing this for real.

She was right. Not because I read the right books or got the right certification, but because I am the person I'm trying to help — just a few chapters ahead. I know what it feels like to look around at your life and not recognize yourself in it. I also know what it feels like to come back.

Hawaii was a turning point I didn't see coming. I was living in paradise — and completely alone. Isolated from everyone familiar, everyone who knew me. So every night, I'd walk to the ocean and just sit there. Watching the waves come in and go out. In and out. Over and over.

And something settled in me.

Life is an ebb and flow. Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield. It's unpredictable and cyclical and it will not stop moving on your behalf — the waves of challenge, change, grief, loss, they keep coming. But you can learn to surf them. You can find your footing in the rhythm of it. And out of that — out of that balance, that resilience — comes something I can only describe as deep joy.

That's where Asherkai was born. On a beach in Hawaii, alone at night, watching the ocean do what it always does.

I built the name from two words that have always meant something to me — Asher, an old word for happiness, and Kai, meaning sea. Happy Sea. Because that's what I believe we all are — waves in the same water, each of us capable of finding our way back to the surface.

"Life has given me plenty of practice in a lot of hard aspects. I've had to bounce back on my own. That's the reason I do this — so you don't have to do it alone."
